1. to burn or injure with hot liquid or steam
2. to heat almost to the boiling point
3. to use boiling liquid on; specif.,
a) to sterilize by the use of boiling liquid
b) to loosen the skin of (fruit, etc.), the feathers of (poultry), or the like, by the use of boiling water

to be or become scalded
